Boovenhully (Boo-ven-hul-lee) Estate is situated in Sidapur, South Coorg (known as the Scotland of the East) In Karnataka, India. The estate sunkissed and rain fed on the hills of the Western Ghats grows coffee and pepper. Here in the midst of the many picturesque coffee estates is the perfect harmony between nature and man and where all aspects of cultivation are a mixture of the traditional with the modern. Boovenhully estate is nestled in a paradise, one side cradled by the River Cauvery and the other by the Dubari Reserve Forest, Karnataka's largest reserve forest. The river Cauvery is often referred to as the Nile of Coorg. It is from this single water source that Coorg derives its water for agriculture. The river is also famous for its Mahseer, huge fishes that grow up to 1.5 metres. and weigh up to 200 kgs. The Dubari Reserve Forest is about 10,000 acres and is home to a plethora of fauna and flora. Elephants, Gaur (White-stockings), Leopards, Panthers, Deer, Sambhar, Boar and many other small animals and birds can be seen here regularly. At times, they can also be seen leisurely moving about the estate. Boovenhully Estate is situated at an elevation of 3300 feet (about 1000 metres) above sea level. This makes it ideally suited for the cultivation of Robusta coffee. Grown under shade (Boovenhully has an average of 85 trees, acre or 210 trees) and pepper vines, utmost care is taken in all stages of preparing coffee careful pruning of plants, soil management practices, water and nutrition management, Integrated Pest management, Hand picked coffee, Hand sorted, pulped, fermented, washed, dried and packed ingredients that give our coffees a quality it richly deserves. The coffee grown at Boovenhully is of the genus Coffea canephora (popularly known as Robusta) and the varieties include Peradeniya and S-274, with some of our coffees over 50 years old. It is said that coffees grown on higher altitudes are richer in taste.
